Staying in touch is easier than you think!

Now that the year is quickly coming to a close you might be worried about how you can stay in touch with your new friends. I know from first hand experiences when friends move away, it's hard to keep in touch with them. You both get busy with your separate lives and don't have the time to catch up with each other. Nonetheless, it's important to keep in touch with friends. Here are some ideas for keeping in touch with your buds.

1.     Call often. Simply pick up the phone and call whenever you can - it doesn't have to be a long phone call. Just a quick 5-minute call can get you caught up with each other
2.     Email or chat online. Make sure you exchange e-mail addresses before you leave campus, and you're all set. Just remember to send them a message with what you have been up to!
3.     Skype. With Skype, you can video-conference with people who live far away from you for FREE by connecting through your camera and microphone on your computer.

Here are some other tips on keeping in touch:
·      Don't wait for your friend to make the first move. Who knows how busy she is, or if she/he is waiting for you to message them!
·      Use internet social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter as means to stay in touch with what your friends have been up too

  1. I really like the content of this post. I think that so many people fail at keeping in touch and your points are completely true and reasonable to the point that no one can counter-argue them. I find that the most important one is not to wait for someone to contact you, and to just contact that person yourself.

  2. This is a great post Lauren. It's sad that many people don't keep in touch with their university and college friends as much as they could. Especially since they have so many technologies available to them that make communication so easy.
I agree with everything you said in your post. I hope that more people take your advice and stay in contact with their friends.

  3. Thanks for the post Lauren! The last thing I want is to make all these friends in university and to never speak with them again. Thank god for Facebook, Twitter and all those social networking sites that can help us stay in touch! Also, Linkedin is a good site to use to keep in touch with professional contacts. I hope to stay in touch with each and everyone one of you guys after school ends :)

  4. You have to make a conscious effort to stay in touch. It's not fault of anyone, but its hard once we get busy in our own lives. I had a few roommates from university that were from Trinidad and one that moved to England, so its important to stay in touch because its unlikely I will see them soon! Awesome blog Laura, I'm going to give my cousins the link since they are starting university in the fall.

  6. You've made some really important points, Lauren. I've lost track of so many friends and even with the internet there's no guarantee you can find them again.

  7. It's very important to maintain relationships. I found that Facebook and Sykpe are lifesavers. They are quick and fun, and most people have them. It's also fun to make events and things on Facebook so that when you go home it gets everybody together!
